This article presents itself as part of an investigation within the scope of an academic project for obtaining a master’s degree, entitled, Design applied in the creation of patterns for home textiles. This project is characterized by the creation of elements (patterns), the communication of which can be assumed as a line of aesthetic elements to be commercialized and applied in designer decoration accessories, an extremely comprehensive professional route with great creative potential. The project arises from the fascination with fabrics, which manifest themselves as a constant in daily life, and simultaneously a creative and deeply challenging area, with a particular interest in printed fabrics.
What We Seek
This article seeks to understand the textile qualities of synthetic fibers, following a study on how design can contribute to the visual enhancement of this material in the development of articles for the home textile, presenting itself to the effect a case study. The challenge is to make a textile support (polyester) that is apparently not the most desirable, with a negative empirical charge, into an appealing product through the visual language of design. It is intended to combine the new individual and social requirements, as well as the new technological advances, allowing more and more fabrics to support trends and needs of the consumer and the designer. The objective is to realize the advantages that polyester fabric presents when a printed fabric for the home is desired. You can buy textile designs online and find the best solutions there.
Design as a praise for the raw material
Design is a subsequent task that aims to make something more alive, more commercial, more usable, more pleasant to the user, more acceptable, more sustainable. It is intended to understand the relationship between design and polyester. How can design make an undesirable surface, an appealing surface through patterns, with the satisfaction and desires of the individual, who sees fashion as a lifestyle, being extremely important.
The individual has always had the need to manifest himself, expressing his state of mind in different ways, with fashion being one of the ways to do so. In the 60s of the last century, the mini-skirt, for example, externalized the emancipation of women. Currently, man has the need to guarantee his uniqueness, ‘showing himself’ in an irregular way, the result of liquid reality.
Throughout the history of fashion and design, fabrics tend to evolve according to innovation at the scientific, industrial and technological level. They also add the new social demands that the individual manifests, in the sense that more and more clothing and decorative items are expressive of a lifestyle, a personal taste and a continuity of personality that increasingly wants to access new trends and have answers to new needs. Fashion is thus a mechanism that responds to this evolution, always with the constant presence of the novelty factor, combined with design. Currently, these new requirements allow innovation in the design of ideas and materials to be a complement.
